Celebration of Service to the Lawyer Assistance Program to Honor Martha Harris, Kathleen Kettles and Susan Schneiderman

The New York City Bar Association’s Celebration of Service to the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) dinner will honor Martha Harris, Kathleen Kettles and Susan Schneiderman on June 12, 2023.  

The Celebration of Service is an annual event, now in its 17th year, that recognizes individuals who have generously given their time, wisdom and support to LAP, assisting those in our legal community in need of help with issues of mental health, substance use and well-being.  

Martha Harris, Senior Director of Programs & Committee Engagement, will receive the LAP Advocate Award. Kathleen P. Kettles, Of Counsel, Jacob D. Fuchsberg Law Firm, and Susan Schneiderman, Law Office of Susan Schneiderman, will receive  Volunteer Appreciation Awards. 

Keynote speaker Mary Beth O’Connor, a retired federal administrative law judge and the author of the “From Junkie to Judge: One Woman’s Triumph Over Trauma and Addiction,” will share her inspiring journey from rock bottom to resilience as she forged a personal path to recovery from trauma and addiction. She will be introduced by LAP Committee Chair Priscilla Lundin.  

President Susan Kohlmann will give opening remarks at the Celebration, and LAP Executive Director Eileen Travis will present the awards.

This year’s dinner is hosted by LAP and the City Bar’s Lawyer Assistance Program Committee. 

LAP, one of the four programs of the City Bar Fund, the 501 (c)(3) arm of the City Bar, is dedicated to providing free and confidential help to lawyers, judges, law students and their families, LAP’s services include comprehensive evaluation; treatment planning; supportive counseling; referral to treatment providers; consultation and information for those concerned about a legal professional; and CLE and educational presentations to law firms, the judiciary and law schools.
