NYC Bar Urges Congress To Ban Jan. 6 Rioters From Office

The New York City Bar Association urged Congress on Thursday to invoke the Fourteenth Amendment to disqualify public officeholders who took part in the Jan. 6 riots from seeking office again. In a report, the association asked Congress to legislate a framework to enforce the amendment’s disqualification clause, which prohibits public officials who participate in insurrections from running for office. The lawyer group also asked the U.S. House committee investigating the riots to include language invoking the clause in a forthcoming report that will conclude its probe.
