N.Y. Agency, Joint Commission on Public Ethics, Faces Questions

In a letter dated Jan. 13, former U.S. Attorney Benton J. Campbell, now government ethics chairman of the New York City Bar Association, and Susan Lerner, director of the government watchdog group Common Cause New York, wrote to Messrs. Cuomo, Silver and Skelos. The letter says they are in violation of the law that created JCOPE, which requires them to appoint an outside eight-person review panel by June 1, 2014. “It is in the interests of the State for you to fulfill the mandatory duties imposed [by law,] not only to further the cause of government integrity but also to end the vulnerability to litigation over your failure to appoint,” the letter said.
