Countering Hate and Violence Against Asian Americans

The New York City Bar Association joins in mourning the eight lives lost in the killings in Atlanta on March 16. The victims included six women of Asian descent, making this the latest in the unacceptable episodes of violence against Asian Americans or Asians across the U.S. over the past year. It is tragic and disheartening, and it is a reminder that we have much more work to do to make our communities safe for all. One way to start is by reading this report from the Asian American Bar Association of New York (AABANY), “A Rising Tide of Hate and Violence against Asian Americans in New York During COVID-19: Impact, Causes, Solutions” and the materials cited throughout. Even though, as explained in the report, we may not always agree on solutions, this important work can be a springboard for collective understanding and action.

We at the Bar of Hope denounce hatred and violence and stand in solidarity with the Asian American and Pacific Islander community.
