NYC Bar Rolls Out Series of Election-Related Short Videos
More Videos Anticipated Post-Election
The New York City Bar Association is releasing a series of short videos in the lead-up to Election Day that inform the general public about their voting rights and the electoral process, including information about disputes between the Trump Administration and some states. The Association anticipates producing and posting additional videos following the election to address legal and constitutional issues as events unfold.
The videos are part of the City Bar’s The Law Is Ours campaign, available on Instagram, TikTok and YouTube. The campaign uses concise, accessible videos to explain why the rule of law matters and to help both lawyers and non-lawyers better understand the legal principles and rights that affect their daily lives.
To date, the campaign has released over a dozen election-related videos covering topics including making a plan to vote, protecting the vote, mail-in voting and voter-fraud claims, time off to vote, your vote does matter, voter intimidation, voter registration in New York, photo ID requirements, voting after a name change, ICE agents at polling places, ballot selfies, voter data privacy, and other election-adjacent legal issues.
Following Election Day, the City Bar expects to shift its focus to legal developments that may emerge from the electoral process, including challenges to, and litigation over, election results, constitutional questions, and other issues of public concern.
“Our democracy depends on both the right to vote and public confidence in the integrity of the electoral process,” said Matthew Diller, President of the New York City Bar Association. “In the days and weeks following the election, Americans are likely to encounter a flood of disputes, litigation and misinformation about election outcomes. The New York City Bar Association will serve as a trusted source of impartial, nonpartisan legal analysis, helping the public understand what the law requires, what the courts will be asked to decide, and what those developments mean for our democratic institutions.”
