Letter to Mayor de Blasio regarding recommendations for comprehensive sexual health education

SUMMARY

In a letter to Mayor de Blasio, the Committees on AIDS and Sex & Law urged the Mayor to support comprehensive sexual health education that not only improves educational outcomes, but also teaches young people how to build respectful relationships, to reduce bullying and to become healthy, whole people. The Committee noted that New York City is falling behind other communities in implementing comprehensive sex education programs in schools from Kindergarten through 12th Grade, and made specific recommendations regarding the curriculum of such a program, an implementation plan and creating a meaningful tracking and evaluation system.
