Fordham University School of Law Wins Regional Moot Court Competition at the City Bar

Fordham University School of Law won the regional rounds of the 74th National Moot Court Competition, which took place November 15 and 16 at the New York City Bar Association. The winning team consisted of Deisy Abarca-Espiritu, Blake Elwood and Joseph Orlando.

Brooklyn Law School, represented by Jacob Pons and Samantha Imber, took second-place honors. Both teams will advance to the final rounds in early 2024. Twenty-Four wining and runner-up teams from 12 regions across the United States will compete in the final rounds of the competition, January 29- January 31.   

Best Brief honors went to CUNY School of Law. Runner-up Brief was awarded to Fordham University School of Law. Best Oralist was awarded to Deisy Abarca-Espiritu of Fordham University School of Law, with runner-up honors going to Blake Elwood of Fordham. 

Competitors in this year’s tournament are confronted with two issues:

The first deals with a question of personal jurisdiction over a foreign resident, and the second on whether social media posts about a crypto asset security give rise to liability under the Securities Act of 1933.  

The competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the National Moot Court Competition Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
