POSITION TITLE:                          Porter – Commercial Building

DEPARTMENT:                              Building Operations

DEPARTMENT FUNCTION

The Building Operations department maintains and operates a 60,000 square foot landmark building in midtown Manhattan.

 

JOB FUNCTION

Be part of the Building Operations team and handle numerous maintenance responsibilities of a landmark building in mid-town Manhattan.

 

WORK SCHEDULES AVAILABLE:

DAY SHIFT: Monday – Friday -7 a.m. – 4 p.m.

EVENING SHIFT: Monday – Friday – 3:00 p.m. – 11 p.m.

 

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES (may include, but are not limited to):

  • Clean street sidewalk outside building at start of day and check throughout the day; clean sidewalk grates
  • Clean glass on entry doors
  • Clean, mop and restock restrooms
  • Scrub, mop and polish/spray buff flooring (including staircases, lobby areas, service areas, copy areas, hallways, etc.)
  • Polish brass weekly
  • Clean, dust, vacuum and remove trash from various office areas
  • Shampoo carpets
  • Vacuum fireplaces as needed
  • Assist with snow removal during the winter months
  • Assist with putting down the carpet runner and umbrella stand during bad weather
  • Work with other porters for interoffice moves and deliveries
  • Set up the training room
  • Set up rooms for meetings
  • Clean roof drains
  • High dust entire building monthly
  • Put trash out to curb nightly, wash trash bins and keep garbage area clean
  • Keep book stacks clean and neat and make sure stack tracks are kept clean
  • Replace bulbs in various areas throughout building
  • Report defective lighting to the night head porter
  • Other relevant duties as assigned

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum 6 months relevant experience required
  • Must be able to lift 75 lbs.
  • Ability to work independently and remain motivated
  • Strong time management skills and attention to detail
  • Professionalism
  • Flexibility to work additional hours, when needed
  • Ability to communicate clearly in English is necessary for the safe and effective performance of this role

This is a Union position; pay, benefits and other employment terms and conditions are determined by the contract
