Nicole Addimando guilty verdict a rare outcome in Dutchess County history

“The state Assembly and Senate recently passed the Domestic Violence Survivors Justice Act. The bill would give judges more discretion when it comes to sentencing domestic violence victims to alternative imprisonment, including community-based alternative to incarceration programs. Eligible inmates could apply for resentencing….Applicants would have to demonstrate eligibility by providing two forms of evidence establishing that he or she was a victim of domestic violence at the time of the offense, that the abuse was a significant contributing factor in the crime, and that the regular sentence for the crime would be unduly harsh, according to the New York City Bar Association.”
