OCA, State Bar Will Develop Broader Definition of Pro Bono
The Unified Court System will work with the New York State Bar Association to develop a more expansive definition of pro bono to guide attorneys when they disclose pro bono hours and monetary contributions….The New York City Bar Association said Monday it was pleased the mandatory reporting of pro bono hours will remain in place, with modifications. “We believe that reporting on additional [pro bono] activities can serve to show the full scope of services lawyers provide to the public,” the group said in a statement. “However, it is important that there be specific reporting of efforts to assist the poor, as this data will be of great use in determining how to deploy additional resources to meet their legal needs.”
