NYC Bar’s Proposed Litigation Funding Reforms, Explained 

New York attorneys could find themselves with new ways to finance their work after the New York City Bar Association suggested changes to the state’s long-debated restrictions on nonparty litigation funding. NYCBA’s working group on litigation funding offered two sets of parameters under which lawyers and law firms could share legal fees with nonlawyers. In an April 5 report, the bar’s Committee on Professional Responsibility cautioned the New York State Bar Association against adopting either of them in their entirety, but offered an alternative that would still broaden access to funding for New York’s litigators.
