NYC Bar Calls For Check On White House Emergency Powers

The New York City Bar Association has thrown its weight behind a bill that would curb some of the White House’s emergency powers, citing the Senate’s recent failures to block President Donald Trump’s declaration of a national emergency along the southern border last year. The Article One Act, which would install a 30-day clock on a National Emergency Act declaration, gained traction in Congress after the Republican-controlled Senate voted several times to pull the plug on Trump’s declaration but failed to secure the majority needed to bypass a veto. Utah Republican Mike Lee is the bill’s lead sponsor.
