NY Bars Call For Speedy High Court Replacement

The bar associations of New York state and New York City have said that Senate Republicans’ refusal to consider the confirmation of President Barack Obama’s nominee to the Supreme Court is unconstitutional, perhaps the most prominent legal institutions yet to come down on the divisive political issue. In a letter to GOP Senate leaders released today, the New York City Bar Association‘s president said the party’s current opposition to holding hearings, much less a vote on the president’s eventual nominee, violates the constitution’s appointments clause.
