TMSLIP
Spring/Summer 2023
Our most pressing need at the moment is the TMSLIP application review. We have 150+ applications to review and score by early March. ODEIB supplies a rubric and meets with reviewers to review the process and support them as they work through the applications. With more applicants than we’ve seen in recent years, we are looking for as many volunteers as we can get!
In that same vein, we are always looking for employers to match students with for internships. Employers will host student(s) for 6-8 weeks for a paid summer internship. Students typically perform administrative duties and shadow attorneys and other legal professionals throughout the summer. Students complete a series of professional development courses before beginning their position. New to the program this year, employers will receive training to provide programmatic support and education on how to ensure an anti-racist approach to the summer experience.
If hosting isn’t an option this year, we encourage firms to fund stipends for students to be placed in government organizations and nonprofits for the summer (it’s a great way to support nonprofit partners while also investing in the legal pipeline!). As these positions are traditionally unpaid, ODEIB pays the stipends in this case ($4,200 per student). We aim to raise $42,000 this year to place an additional ten students in government & nonprofit internships while ensuring that all students are paid for their labor.
Anti-Semitism Program
Wednesday, March 15, 2023, | 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
A longtime City Bar member approached ODEIB in early December with an idea for a program focused on Anti-Semitism. As we’ve all borne witness, acts of Anti-Semitism have sharply risen in recent months. The program, set for March 15, will consist of several speakers, a panel discussion, and an opportunity for Q&A and discourse at the end. The distinguished panel of speakers include:
– Michael D. Cohen | Eastern Director Simon Wiesenthal Center
– Eric Dinowitz | NYC Councilmember Chair of the Jewish Caucus and of the Higher Education Committee
– Hassan Naveed | Executive Director of the Mayor’s Office of Hate Crime Prevention
– Ari Farkas | Hate Crimes Unit
There are sponsorship opportunities available for this event for organizations or folks interested in supporting this important panel discussion.
2023 Annual LSAT Conference:
Tuesday, April 11, 2023, | 9:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.
This will be the first in-person conference since 2020! As such, we want to make a splash! This year, funding is needed to sponsor the breakfast, lunch, and headshot station. Each contributing organization will be celebrated as a sponsor-in-kind, their logos featured as part of a slideshow and at the station they sponsor. In addition, we would love to provide attendees with notebooks, pens, and bags to carry all of the materials they’ll collect throughout the conference. Please reach out if you or your firm would like to sponsor and support!

Our annual Associate Leadership Institute is coming up! With sessions beginning in May, planning is starting to take shape. The DPI committee, which typically plans and hosts this event, is incredibly busy with TMSLIP and the LSAT conference. To lighten their load, we’d like to open up the planning process to the diversity cluster committees. This involves reviewing and revamping previous curricula as well as securing speakers.
We look forward to sharing these opportunities with our cluster committee members, who are very much aligned with our Pipeline vision. Please reach out with any questions in the meantime.
