Volunteering Needs

February 21, 2023

TMSLIP

We have 150+ applications to review and score by early March. ODEIB supplies a rubric and meets with reviewers to review the process and support them as they work through the applications. With more applicants than we’ve seen in recent years, we are looking for as many volunteers as we can get!

In that same vein, we are always looking for employers to match students with for internships. Employers will host student(s) for 6-8 weeks for a paid summer internship. Students typically perform administrative duties and shadow attorneys and other legal professionals throughout the summer. Students complete a series of professional development courses before beginning their position. New to the program this year, employers will receive training to provide programmatic support and education on how to ensure an anti-racist approach to the summer experience.

If hosting isn’t an option this year, we encourage firms to fund stipends for students to be placed in government organizations and nonprofits for the summer (it’s a great way to support nonprofit partners while also investing in the legal pipeline!). As these positions are traditionally unpaid, ODEIB pays the stipends in this case ($4,200 per student). We aim to raise $42,000 each year to place an additional ten students in government & nonprofit internships while ensuring that all students are paid for their labor.
