Matrimonial Law Committee

The Matrimonial Law Committee addresses issues related to the family and the practice of matrimonial law including equitable distribution, spousal support, child support, custody, access, same sex marriage, prenuptial, post-nuptial and separation/settlement agreements, financial valuations and forensic valuations.

Among its many efforts, the Matrimonial Committee reviews, assesses and, when appropriate, reports to the City Bar on legislation that directly or indirectly impacts the practice of matrimonial law. Committee members often serve with members of other committees when there are issues that transcend multiple disciplines. Most recently, members of the Committee are participating in the preparation of a report for submission to the New York State Law Revision Commission.

Continuing legal education programs are an integral part of the Committee’s work. Programs are designed and sponsored by the Committee for the Bar and judiciary twice per year in addition to participation as a co-sponsor of programs that intersect with or involve the practice of family law.
