In Memoriam: Carol Robles Roman

The New York City Bar Association mourns the passing of Carol Robles Roman, who is remembered as a Latina leader and champion of women’s rights, Latino/a rights, social justice, educational access and good government. She joined the City Bar in 1991 and served on several committees, including Women in the Courts and Children and the Law. Her many professional roles included Deputy Mayor for Legal Affairs and Counsel to New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg from 2002-2013, New York State Assistant Attorney General in the Civil Rights Bureau, Special Inspector General for Bias Matters and Special Counsel for the New York State Unified Court System, General Counsel and Dean of Faculty at Hunter College, and Trustee at the City University of New York. She also served as Co-President and CEO of the ERA Coalition/Fund for Women’s Equality, where she led legal and advocacy efforts to advance constitutional equality.
