The Tulsa Race Massacre: In Search of Justice and the Rule of Law

The Tulsa Race Massacre of 1921 was perhaps the single most horrific episode of racial violence and destruction in US history. None of the perpetrators have ever been held responsible, nor have the public entities that deputized a massive group of White Tulsa citizens for the sole purpose of unleashing murderous fury on the Black Tulsa community known as Greenwood.

On the 101st anniversary of this terrible stain on U.S. history, this program explored the background of the Tulsa Massacre, including events leading up to it and its aftermath. It described the pursuit for accountability and repair for the victims and their descendants that started in the days immediately following the massacre to today’s historic efforts, a lawsuit brought by the Justice for Greenwood Foundation through the novel use of Oklahoma’s Public Nuisance Law.
