Legal Pitfalls Bedevil Some New #MeToo Policies, Experts Say

“As companies continue to bolster their sexual harassment policies in the wake of #MeToo, some new efforts may be creating unintended legal pitfalls that must be weighed carefully, experts said on Monday at a New York City Bar panel on sexual harassment. Some new — and trending — efforts to tackle and prevent workplace sexual harassment could inadvertently create hurdles for internal investigations or to pursuing a court action, said attorneys at the event, ‘Sexual Harassment and the Law: A Call to Action for Lawyers in the #MeToo Era.’ Among these are efforts to create anonymous hotlines for sexual harassment victims to report issues, new anti-bullying or civility policies, and zero-tolerance stances on sexual harassment.”
