Some Lawyers Express Qualms About Pick of Sessions as AG

“For New York City Bar president John Kiernan, a partner at Debevoise & Plimpton, protecting the rule of law and individual rights is a prime concern. ‘The position of attorney general is the most important legal job in the country and it is essential that the attorney general be a fierce and reverential supporter of the rule of law and the constitutional and civil rights of all,’ he said. ‘While opposition to a president-elect’s views is not a valid reason to oppose his choice of advisers who have similar views, it certainly seems appropriate given some comments and actions in Senator Sessions’ history to inquire searchingly during the confirmation process into the degree of his commitment and determination to protect the rule of law.'”
