New York City Bar Association Launches New Website
We are pleased to inform you that the New York City Bar Association has launched its new website.
The website redesign, more than a year in the making, was accomplished with the help of two leading website development firms, Greenfield Belser and One North. The redesign is intended to accomplish several objectives. First, we want to make it easier for you to find what you are looking for on the City Bar site among its tens of thousands of documents, including the accumulated reports of our 160 committees. Second, the site is more mobile-friendly. And third, we have updated the look and feel of the site to reflect better all that the City Bar does and the impact it has.
Search is your Friend
To make content easily accessible, the new site is designed to be very search-friendly. For example, the Committee Reports section features a fast and responsive keyword search function with filters for narrowing your search by Committee, Subject Area, Issue and/or Date.
One Combined Calendar for CLE and Non-CLE Events
Now you’ll be able to view a combined list of all upcoming CLE and non-CLE events, with the ability to sort them by date or by type (e.g., all CLE followed by all non-CLE).
Related Content
The new site features a sophisticated tagging system that allows for the display of related content. So, for example, when you go to the Immigration & Nationality Law Committee page, you will be able to click on tabs to view Reports by the committee as well as related News, upcoming immigration-themed Events, and other relevant Resources. And when you view a report from that committee, you are likely to be presented with Related Reports, Related Media and immigration-related Events as well. Tagging is an ongoing process, and these related content elements will grow as time goes on.
A Note on the “Services” Section
The previously mentioned “Services” section, which is the “Members Only” section of the website, is being given a cosmetic makeover to match the rest of the site, but its functionality will not change at this time. This section is tied to a database management program the City Bar and many other associations use, and making functional changes to this section would require a separate effort.
Just the Beginning
The launch of a new website is in many ways just the beginning of a process, as those of us who work with the site take advantage of its new technologies to improve the site through daily use. Although we have spent weeks beta testing the site and fixing bugs, there will inevitably be more bugs on a new site post-launch, and for these we apologize in advance. Websites are like living, breathing organisms that require constant tending and optimizing, and we will continue to work hard to improve the site in the days and weeks ahead.
