City Bar Statement on the Killing of Attorneys in Pakistan

Nearly 10 years ago, some 700 lawyers from the New York City Bar Association and a half dozen other bar associations stood on the steps of New York Supreme Court in Manhattan to show solidarity with lawyers and judges in Pakistan at a time when the rule of law was threatened in their country. Today, the City Bar offers condolences following the shooting of the president of the Balochistan Bar Association, Bilal Anwar Kasi, and the dozens of lawyers and others who were killed by a bomb when they went to the hospital in Quetta to mourn his death. When lawyers are targeted, so is the rule of law. As we mourn the victims and offer condolences to their families, we wish strength to those carrying on to maintain the legal system in Pakistan.
