This presentation will explore the different types of cyber risks and their impact on law firms. The speakers will discuss the importance of cyber security specifically for law firms and how firms can protect privileged information in order to avoid reputation damage and media risk. Lawyers’ legal and ethical duties in the cyber landscape including rules involving competence, communication, and confidentiality of information will also be addressed.
In addition, the presentation will include examples of cyber risk management such as: 1) identification of key accounts and systems; 2) written funds transfer policies, and; 3) what every law firm should have in place to better protect itself.
An integral part of the presentation will be a discussion of insurance considerations, including cyber insurance and legal malpractice insurance as well as claims handling processes and breach response. Participants will learn the ways in which data breaches occur and how their firm can develop a cyber risk management program.
