Thursday, July 16, 2015 | 6-9pm

The Honorable Paul Engelmayer

Program Chair & Moderator
The Honorable Paul Engelmayer

US District Judge, SDNY

  • During the October 2014 Term, the Supreme Court decided some of the most contested legal issues in years, including the “gay marriage” cases, making for an exciting “year in review.” At this program, a prominent panel of Supreme Court litigators, former Supreme Court law clerks, constitutional scholars, and federal judges will examine, review, and debate the leading Supreme Court decisions of the Term and their impact on the future. The speakers represent diverse points of view and perspectives and will provide insightful discussions of the Court’s decisions.

The panel will specifically cover the most important decisions from the Supreme Court’s Term, which include cases touching on several areas of law:

    • First Amendment (Walker v. Texas Division, Sons of Confederate Veterans, Inc; Williams-Yulee v. The Florida Bar; Elonis v. U.S.; Department of Homeland Security v. MacLean)
    • Administrative Law, Federalism, and Separation of Powers (King v. Burwell; Zivotofsky v. Kerry; Arizona State Legislature v. Arizona Independent Redistricting Comm’n.)
    • Civil Rights, Voting Rights, and Equal Protection (Obergefell v. Hodges;  Department of Homeland Security v. MacLean)
    • Securities Law, Intellectual property, and Procedure (Omnicare, Inc. v. Laborers District Council Construction Industry Pension Fund; Teva Pharmaceuticals USA, Inc. v. Sandoz, Inc.)
