What New Yorkers Need to Know to Vote on the Equal Rights Amendment (Prop 1) This November

The New York City Bar Association has released a one-page document to educate New Yorkers on what Proposal 1, the Equal Rights Amendment WILL and WILL NOT do so that they can confidently cast their vote on this ballot issue in November.

Advocates have warned that the language of Prop 1 as it will be included on the ballot is incomplete and overcomplicated, and that voters would therefore likely have difficulty making an informed decision. A complaint was filed in New York State court to that effect.

While the ballot language has not been updated, voters can use the City Bar’s educational document to get definitive answers as to what the Equal Rights Amendment would and would not do if enacted into law by the voters.
