On First Passage of the No Cap Act

Statement by New York City Bar Association President Muhammad U. Faridi

The New York City Bar Association applauds the Assembly in joining the Senate and giving first passage to the No Cap Act. The People of the State of New York need enough judges to do justice. New York’s antiquated and inefficient method for allocating judicial resources has a negative impact on the administration of justice not just in the Supreme Court but also in the other courts, including Family Court, Civil Court and local criminal courts. We believe that passing the No Cap Act is an important step toward alleviating New York’s overly burdened judicial system. Our thanks to the Act’s sponsors –- Assembly Member Alex Bores and Senator Brad Hoylman-Sigal –- for their tireless advocacy on this issue.  We look forward to continuing to work with the Legislature, members of the bench and bar, and other interested parties to improve New York’s system for allocating judicial resources and ensure equal access to justice.
