Fordham University School of Law Wins Regional Moot Court Competition at the City Bar

Fordham University School of Law won the regional rounds of the 75th National Moot Court Competition, which took place November 20-21 at the City Bar. The winning team consisted of Annika Jorgensen, Emily Stubblefield, and Matthew Salavitch, and was coached by Abigail Conroy.

New York University Law School, represented by Patience Adegboyega and Morgan Hale, took second place honors. Both teams will advance to the final rounds in early 2025. Twenty-nine winning and runner-up teams from 14 regions across the United States will compete in the final rounds of the competition, January 29- January 31.

Best Brief honors went to Fordham University School of Law. Runner-up Brief was awarded to Elisabeth Haub School of Law at Pace University. Best Oralist was awarded to Emily Stubblefield of Fordham University School of Law, with runner-up honors going to Morgan Hale of New York University Law School.

This year’s Record on Appeal addressed issues of Article III standing and discrimination under the Americans with Disabilities Act (the “ADA”).  Competitors in this year’s tournament were confronted with two issues:

The first was whether a family of disabled individuals had standing to bring an ADA claim against an all-inclusive resort for its lack of website accessibility, and second, whether the resort’s amusement park rider eligibility criteria was deemed “necessary” under the ADA.

The competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the National Moot Court Competition Committee of the New York City Bar Association, chaired by Heidi Goldsmith and Sabrina Smith.
