Join us as we celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Lawyer Assistance Program (LAP) and honor our Volunteer Award Recipients who have so generously given their time, wisdom and caring to assist LAP in helping those in our legal community with mental health, substance use or other personal and professional issues affecting well-being. The City Bar has reissued its support for legislation to protect children during custodial police interrogation. Youth are uniquely vulnerable to involuntarily waiving their Miranda rights and to providing unreliable confessions. The proposed legislative amendment provides additional safeguards to protect the Constitutional rights of children, defines when the police must contact the youth’s parent or guardian, and requires that a youth subjected to custodial interrogation first consult an attorney.
