The Need for a Special Prosecutor for Criminal Justice

SUMMARY 

The Criminal Law Committee recommends the reestablishment of the office of special Prosecutor for criminal justice. From 1972 until its dissolution in 1990, the office prosecuted corrupt acts by public servants that were connected to law enforcement or criminal justice administration in New York City. The Committee believes the special prosecutor should have jurisdiction to prosecute cases of brutalíty as well as corruption. It also believes that there is ample evidence that the office should have state-wide, and not just New York City, jurisdiction.
