The integrity of the judicial process rests upon the ability to restrict intimidating and harassing behavior that interferes with or otherwise threatens the judicial process. The City Bar supports Justice Juan Merchan's handling of the restraining (i.e., "gag") order limiting former President Trump from making statements causing threats to the families of court staff or prosecutors, as well as to jurors and witnesses. As Justice Merchan wrote in his new order yesterday: "The conventional 'David vs. Goliath' roles are no longer in play as demonstrated by the singular power Defendant's words have on countless others."
