Committee Reports

Report opposing legislation relating to commercial rent control and commercial tenant harassment

SUMMARY

The Real Property Law and Cooperative & Condominium Law Committees submitted comments in opposition to a New York City Council bill that, in the Committees’ view, amounted to a commercial rent control bill. The basis for the Committees’ opposition was that the City Council lacked authority to enact the law and, even if the City Council had authority to enact certain provisions, the bill was so vague and overbroad as to have significant unintended consequences.
