SUMMARY

The Animal Law Committee (Lori A. Barrett, Chair), along with the Children and the Law Committee (Sara L. Hiltzik, Chair) and the Education and the Law Committee (Christine Raniga, Chair), issued a report in support of proposed amendments to the New York State Education Law regarding verification of compliance in instruction in the humane treatment of animals, and expanding the requirements for teaching humane education to secondary school students.  The Animal Law Committee also issued a report in support of the Federal Accountability in Chemical Testing (FACT) Act, which would require public reports on the federal government’s use of animals in toxicological testing and the government’s progress on the use of alternative toxicological testing methods.
