Letter calling for additional resources and time for the New York Ethics Review Commission to conduct its statutory mission to review the Joint Commission on Public Ethics and Legislative Review Commission

SUMMARY

The Government Ethics Committee wrote a letter to Governor Cuomo and legislative leaders requesting that state government provide the New York Ethics Review Commission funding to allow it to hire legal, drafting, research and logistical services to aid with the completion and publication of its report. The letter supplements the Committee’s October 16th letter urging the Commission to request a three month extension of the current deadline for the submission of its report and that the report include changes in the law under which JCOPE operates. The Committee argues that “given the important purpose for which the Review Commission was empanelled under law, we believe it would be difficult to expect it to carry on and complete its work without the ability to obtain the assistance that it views as necessary.
