As we pause this Veterans Day to honor the service and sacrifice of both active duty and retired service members and their families, we would like to take this opportunity to talk about what we can do as lawyers to support them. Here at the City Bar, those efforts are led by our Military Affairs and Justice Committee and the City Bar Justice Center’s Veterans Assistance Project.<
The New York City Bar Association urges passage of the Military Justice Improvement Act of 2013, S.1752 (“MJIA”), which would put legal decisions in the hands of experienced prosecutors, independent from the chain of command, for serious crimes that are not uniquely military in nature.<
