The Task Force on National Security and the Rule of Law addresses legal issues relating to the struggle against terrorism, the pursuit of suspected terrorists, and the treatment of detainees. In the years since the 9/11 attacks, the Association has been a prominent voice in the debates around how to balance a robust and effective national security policy with a full and faithful respect for the rule of law. Our principal message has been that our system of justice – based on time-tested constitutional and international norms – is a source of strength, not vulnerability.
