The Criminal Courts Committee studies the workings of the Criminal Term of the New York State Supreme Court, as well as the New York City Criminal Court. Committee members also actively participate in the City Bar Judiciary Committee's review of judicial candidates. Recent topics addressed by the Committee include the issues of the prosecution's responsibilities under Brady v. Maryland; amending CPL§ 440.10 to include an "actual innocence" prong; the effect of Padilla v. Kentucky on trial court practice; and posting of bail via credit card.
