With revised bill, council will revisit commercial rent control

“‘We want New York to continue to be a city of neighborhoods that places value on the entrepreneurial spirit that allows you to open a business,’ Levin said. ‘It takes a lot of guts to do that.’ The New York Bar Association found that the previous incarnation of the law violated the state constitution and would not survive a legal challenge. The councilman was confident that the revised bill would survive any potential legal challenges. ‘We think it’s legal,” Levin said. “We have the legal authority to do this.’”
