The final round was judged by Roger Juan Maldonado, President, New York City Bar Association; Jeffrey Leon, President, American College of Trial Lawyers; Hon. Richard Wesley, Senior United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit; Hon. Cheryl E. Chambers, New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, Second Judicial Department; Hon. Saliann Scarpulla, New York State Supreme Court, Commercial Division and Hon. Ellen Gesmer, New York State Supreme Court, Appellate Division, First Judicial Department.

The two issues in this year’s competition involved whether a state may exercise general personal jurisdiction over a corporation based solely on that corporation’s registration to do business in that state; and whether the design of a fully autonomous vehicle, in light of an accident in which it performed as intended, is defective by virtue of being unreasonably dangerous.

The final argument was the culmination of more than six months of preparation and arguments by 174 teams from over 120 law schools across the country. The top two teams from each of the 14 regional competitions advanced to the final rounds.

The Competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the National Moot Court Competition Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
