The Great Recession: the Tipline for 19 May 2022
As the US economy prepares for a recession, assistant attorney general Jonathan Kanter is readying economics for a recession of its own. In a speech delivered on Wednesday before the New York City Bar Association, Kanter said antitrust’s overreliance on economics had turned enforcement into central planning. ‘It cannot be that a business trying to understand the legality of its merger must undertake months of analysis to produce a complex simulation model,’ he said.
