Ruth Bader Ginsburg

The New York City Bar Association mourns the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a paragon of the legal community and our longtime member. In her service on the bench, Justice Ginsburg was a titanic force for justice, and her storied career as an attorney paved the way for women in the legal profession. We are deeply saddened she is no longer with us, and we mourn along with her family, friends, colleagues and all she touched with her extraordinary life.

RBGJustice Ginsburg was an inspiring presence at the City Bar for over half a century. Since 2000, the annual Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Distinguished Lecture on Women and the Law was the most anticipated program and by far the toughest ticket on the City Bar’s annual calendar of events, with overflowing crowds in the Great Hall always including many of the young women and law students who have enthusiastically followed in Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s footsteps.

Early this year, on the occasion of the Association’s 150th anniversary, Justice Ginsburg gave us this video message.

Below, a very young fan meets Justice Ginsburg before the 2019 lecture.
