Read: DiNapoli, Others Push on Draft Opinion Curbing Fundraising

In late October, the state Joint Commission on Public Ethics issued a draft advisory opinion that if adopted could have a major impact on campaign giving to New York’s three statewide elected officials. As the Times Union reported this morning, in the weeks since, attorneys from the offices of those very politicians — Gov. Andrew Cuomo, Attorney General Eric Schneiderman and Comptroller Tom DiNapoli — have provided input to JCOPE that could well end up narrowing the impacts of the opinion….The full letter from DiNapoli’s general counsel Nancy Groenwegen to Stamm can be read here — and below that letter, another one from the New York City Bar Association‘s letter asking JCOPE to go even further, and also restrict donations from those with legislation before state government.
