Pathway Out of Mass Incarceration and Toward a New Criminal Justice System Podcast

New York City Bar Association · A Pathway Out of Mass Incarceration and Toward a New Criminal Justice System: The City Bar Report

Sarah Berger and Jullian Harris-Calvin, co-chairs of the City Bar’s Mass Incarceration Task Force, along with Tess Cohen, chair of the City Bar’s Criminal Justice Operations Committee, discuss recommendations to the New York State Legislature made in a recent Task Force on Mass Incarceration report called “A Pathway Out of Mass Incarceration and Towards a New Criminal Justice System.”

Sarah, Jullian and Tess break down this report that looks at the criminal justice system from beginning to end, asking “how can we reduce the footprint and the impact of the criminal justice system at every stage? How can we arrest fewer people, arraign fewer people, convict fewer people, sentence fewer people to prison, reduce prison sentences, reform prisons, reform parole, and reform the conviction-sealing process? How can we address the root causes of crime and invest in our community infrastructure rather than in punishment infrastructure?”
