New Frontiers in Federalism – Session 1: The Changing Tides of Federalism
This first of four sessions on federalism begins with a historical survey as it developed from the Civil War through the 20th Century. It then takes inventory of the novel and daunting federalism challenges that have arisen during the 21st Century, creating great potential for clashes between governmental institutions. In particular, the panel discusses federalism through a civil rights lens, including a discussion of voting rights, and federalism issues raised by the recent litigation over medication abortion.
This series is intended to explore the new federalism landscape for judicial, legislative and administrative agency actions and its implications both for the lives of ordinary Americans and effective governmental responses to these substantive challenges.
