Fordham University School of Law Wins Regional Moot Court Competition at the City Bar

Fordham University School of Law won the regional rounds of the 73rd National Moot Court Competition, which took place November 16 and 17. The winning team consisted of Mikaella Evaristo, Kaleb Underwood and Grace Brennan.

Seton Hall University School of Law, represented by Michael Oros and Samantha Jerabek, took second place honors. Both teams will advance to the final rounds in early 2023. Twenty-six winning and runner-up teams from 13 regions across the United States will compete in the final rounds of the competition, January 30 through February 2.

Best Brief honors went to CUNY School of Law. Runner-up Brief was awarded to Fordham University School of Law. Best Oralist was awarded to Mikaella Evaristo of Fordham University School of Law, with runner-up honors going to Kaleb Underwood.

Competitors in this year’s tournament are confronted with two issues:

The first is whether Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act protects interactive computer service providers from liability where the actionable content is publish by artificial intelligence, and second is whether a non-party with a financial interest in the dissemination of information is eligible for protection under the common law doctrine, the reporter’s shield.

The competition is co-sponsored by the American College of Trial Lawyers and the National Moot Court Competition Committee of the New York City Bar Association.
