Don’t count on a plan to alleviate housing costs from the federal government, de Blasio says

“The federal government is not providing guidance on how to fight rising housing costs in several U.S. cities including New York, Mayor Bill de Blasio said Thursday morning.

‘Immediate answers to the housing crisis are not coming out of Washington D.C.,’ he said at a zoning code symposium hosted by the New York City Bar Association.

Assistance from state capitals vary, the mayor added, indicating that it is up to local governments to try and fight the pressure of the real estate market and assuage fears of current residents, who are wary of new development and changes to their neighborhoods.

They are fearful of being displaced from their city,’ he said.”
