Call for State to Adopt Stricter Disclosure Rules for Lawmakers

In 2010, following a string of public corruption arrests, the New York City Bar Association called on state lawmakers who also work as attorneys to disclose the names of their clients, the fees they earned and the nature of the work they performed. Clients would have to be notified in advance that their names will be disclosed and provide their written consent. Otherwise, the lawmaker could not represent them….Jeffrey A. Udell, a New York City attorney who served as chairman of the New York City Bar Association Professional Responsibility Committee from 2008 to 2011, said he hopes the recommendations gain support in the wake of Silver’s arrest.
