As Appointment Period Approaches, Groups Rate Chief Judge Candidates
As Gov. Andrew Cuomo prepares to pick the state’s new chief judge, a pair of law organizations have released their ratings of the seven candidates nominated to replace Jonathan Lippman. The organizations — the New York City Bar Association and state Academy of Trial Lawyers — both issued positive scores for all seven candidates, though some earned better marks than others. The Bar Association gave the seven candidates “well qualified” scores based on its system, which awards well qualified or not well qualified rankings.
