Ensuring that the justice system is able to provide the highest quality of legal representation.

The City Bar was founded in 1870 in response to growing public concern about corruption in the justice system in New York City.  Since that time, we have been dedicated to ensuring the fair administration of justice and encouraging appropriate standards of professional and judicial ethics, competence, civility and integrity.  Our committees address substantive and procedural issues relating to the practice of law in local, state, federal and international courts.  Policy issues in this area include the need for commission-based judicial appointments, access to justice, the importance of judicial diversity, and court restructuring when necessary.
