Mercer serves as the insurance advisor and program administrator for the City Bar and its members. They design and implement insurance plans available only to members — with discounted pricing, enhanced coverage or both. The following is a brief overview of the sponsored insurance plans and services available to assist you.

Lawyers Professional Liability Program

When it comes to something as critical as protecting your ability to earn a living, it pays to work with proven professionals. The Zurich Lawyers’ Professional Liability Insurance Program offers you coverage designed by lawyers’ liability professionals — people who understand the risks of a legal practice and know how to address them. They can put experienced counsel at your disposal when potential malpractice issues arise, and make reporting claims quick and easy. We can provide you some of the best coverage options available to attorneys. You may obtain a no obligation premium indication at www.CityBarLPL.com by answering a few brief questions. If you have any questions, please call Mercer at 877-783-5434.

Medical Insurance

Group Medical Plans — Mercer can work with you to navigate the changes mandated by the Affordable Care Act by evaluating and placing your medical insurance plan in the appropriate market for your situation. Choose from individual or group health plans available from the private insurance market or the New York State of Health marketplace. Premium Tax Credits may be available for both individuals and small groups through the New York State of Health plans. Small groups (2 to 50) can join the Oxford program during the special open enrollment period with an April 1 effective date.

Level Term Life (10 and 20-year term)

Members can protect themselves with a 10 or 20-year term life policy with face amounts up to $1,000,000. Rates are projected to remain level for the first 10 or 20 years of your coverage so that do not experience increases in premium as you get older.* This results in substantial premium savings during the life of the coverage. After the initial 10 or 20-year term period, you can re-apply for coverage at your then attained age or transfer to the regular term life program without underwriting if you no longer qualify for the level term plan.

You may also insure your spouse or domestic partner, and your eligible employees may apply for coverage as well.

*The initial premium will not change for the first 10 or 20 years unless the insurance company exercises its right to change premium rates for all insureds covered under the group policy with 90 days advance written notice.

Long Term Disability Plan

Protect your most important asset — your ability to earn an income! You may apply for up to $12,000 per month in benefits. The plan includes a residual disability benefit which enables you to return to your practice following a compensable total disability. Choose between a long or short term benefit period. A partial disability option is available.

Workers' Compensation

Workers’ Compensation insurance is required by law and covers your employees in the event of a job-related injury. Coverage is standardized by state law and includes hospital and medical expenses, work-related disability income and a death benefit.

Business Owner's Policy

This coverage provides important business liability and property protection. Protects your practice against financial loss resulting from claims of actual or alleged damage caused to others. Protects your furniture, fixtures and inventory to help repair or replace a loss.

Long Term Care

Members are eligible to receive a 5% premium discount on Long-Term Care policies. The discount also applies to your spouse, parents or parents-in-law. Special plans for group practices can also be developed.

Auto and Homeowners

The Auto and Homeowners Program provides special discounts* on automobile and homeowners (condo/co-op and renters) premiums for members of the Association. There is an additional discount if both policies are purchased through Liberty Mutual Insurance. Call 800-524-9400 for more information.

*Discounts and savings are available where state laws and regulations allow, and may vary by state. Certain discounts apply to specific coverages only. To the extent permitted by law, applicants are individually underwritten; not all applicants may qualify.

Mercer and the Association do not provide tax or legal advice. Please consult with your personal advisors on any of these issues. The summary above is only provided as a general overview and should not be used to make decisions on coverage. In the event of any conflict between the information above and the policy, the policy will govern.
