Recognizing the Role of the Bench and Bar in Improving the Lives of Women and Girls

In conjunction with the U.N.’s session, the New York City Bar Association’s United Nations Committee on March 8 hosted its fifth annual International Law Conference on the Status of Women. The event is meant to recognize the role of the bench and bar in improving the status of women and girls worldwide by enforcing their legal rights and improving their economic fortunes. Keynote speakers for the event were U.S. District Judge Esther Salas of the District of New Jersey, whose advocacy following the murder of her son led to the passage of the Daniel Anderl Judicial Security and Privacy Act, and Maria Cruz Melendez, a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom.
